Oh, How She Blooms II
Oh, How She Blooms! II is rooted in the underlying interest of self-perception. The project explores the contradiction of my conservative beliefs.
And they were both naked, the man and his wife, and were not ashamed--
And the eyes of them both were opened, and they knew that they were naked; and they sewed fig leaves together, and made themselves aprons--
The scriptures are references to Adam and Eve and how their nudity was unknown to them; Eating from the 'tree of the knowledge of good and evil' is what brought their realization of shame and they hid themselves. This is the basis of my concept; I represent myself in both manners--revealed and concealed.
My knowledge makes me aware of the gaze and makes me restrict the eye contact of the viewer. I conceal my face and my body parts. On the opposing side, parts of my body are fully exposed which display my acceptance of being nude. This project seeks to peel back some of the layers within this opposition--It is okay to have strict beliefs, but to also be open to an opposing side.
